I know I cannot paint a flower. I cannot paint the sun on the desert on a bright summer morning, but maybe in terms of paint color I can convey to you my experience of the flower or the experience that makes the flower of significance to me at that particular time. – Georgia O’Keeffe
After the winter chaos in northwest DC finally settled, we headed downtown to visit the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit at the Phillips Collection. In general, I find it very inspiring to stand face to face with paintings and to see O’Keeffe in real life is a chance I won’t miss.
Though crowded, visitors got to see charcoal drawings from her early years to the more contemporary paintings she did during her last years. To no ones surprise, I lingered around the beautiful flowers and swirls – ah, to view each brushstroke she took so many years ago. Amazing.
Unfortunately, photography wasn’t allowed to capture the beauty of her art. Instead I took some photos of the other art collections permanently on display at the Phillips Collection.
