“Unfolding Tulip” – Painting No 2 in the Spring Art Auction 2013 series
10×10 inches on 1.5 inches gallery wrapped canvas (25 x 25 x 4 cm)
Opening Bid: $32 || Gallery Price: $230
It’s not often you see a tulip completely open up like this. It happened to a bouquet of purple tulips I had bought for my day-job office. Almost like wildflowers, the stems started bending all kinds of ways and many flowers opened up completely. It was gorgeous.
I love painting tulips. It’s such a beautiful flower with its tight and structured bud, which then can take on a completely different look like this piece or like a parrot tulip (see yellow and red june). I was so mesmerized by this particular unfolding tulip that my fingers where itching to put it onto canvas. I’ll share a few behind the scenes photos from when I painted this a little later today.
Unfolding Tulip measures 10×10 inches and is painted on a 1.5 inches deep gallery wrapped canvas (25 x 25 x 4cm). The tulip is a blend of pink, purple and reds. The background takes on a gradient of a mutant blend of dark green, black and a mix of light green and beige. The lighter color spreads towards the top, and the blend spreads onto all sides of the piece. It’s ready to hang as is.
Once the bidding is over and this painting has a winner, I will ship it via USPS Priority Mail or US Priority International Mail Globally. It will be packaged very carefully.
