DAY 6: Chillin’ and Chattin’

Day 6 is here, can you believe it? Six days in a row that you’ve played with colors and said yes to showing up for yourself. Well done my friend!

As I mentioned on Day 1, the Painting Challenge is here to help you establish a painting practice that will nurture you, inspire and connect you to your own creativity. I hope this painting I did many years ago will allow you to tap into some calm today as you’re painting the silhouettes of birds on a wire at dusk.

The Painting Practice

Remember to turn off your phone notifications before you start.

  1. Sketch a rectangular the size of 8×8 inches or small on your canvas paper.
  2. Focus on the background next (the silhouette of the birds and wires come last), and while looking at your reference photo as your inspiration, decide how you want to paint your sky.
  3. Choose your colors, they can be whatever colors you’d like. While I love this combination of grayish blues and whites, with a dab of vibrant blue towards the bottom – feel free to paint your version of a sky at dusk. Maybe it’s a pink sky or hints of orange?
  4. Grab some water and your brushes, and don’t forget a towel to clean off your wet brush. If you’ve never painted with acrylic paint before, watch the little video under Prep Work.
  5. Now, set a gentle timer and paint for 20 minutes for some meditative joy and playful painting. We’re going for fun and not perfection.
  6. After you’ve painted your sky, now you focus on the silhouette. Feel free to use a pencil and sketch out the silhouette first and then go back with a black paint. Add some grays or whites on the wires as they catch some of the last rays of light.
  7. Claim your creativity and honor your journey of showing up for yourself by signing your art work.

SHARE YOUR CREATION:

Take a photo of your finished challenge and share in our Facebook Group. How did this challenge feel? Did the silhouette of birds chillin and chatting on a telephone pole wire at the end of the day relax you? Why did you paint the sky the way you did? Let me know when you share your photo.

If you feel called to continue painting past 20 minutes, please do so and let us know when you share it.
