{Hank’s Pet Portrait – 11×14 inches original painting}
This doggie portrait was commissioned by a wife for her husband’s birthday. Already special as is, it was even more so for this couple as he has passed away. My client described him as the love of her husband’s life and she wanted to honor him and their relationship in this unique way. Her husband was moved to tears when he opened it.
“This portrait means more to me than words can say. Thank you so much for capturing his essense and his joyful way in this painting.” – D.B. of Virginia
Maybe it’s because I’m an artist, but I’m a very emotional person and I thought it would be challenging to one day paint a pet who had passed away. I’m honored to have had Hank as I completely forgot that he no longer was alive when I painted him. To me, he was very much alive throughout my process and I could feel is joy and spirit. I have a feeling he would approve of how I portraid him. 🙂
“Hank’s Pet Portrait” measures 11×14 inches and is painted on a 1.5 inches deep gallery wrapped canvas. We chose a lighter background after the client was more drawn to a almost a white background. Since his fur is a mix of white and black I blended in some unbleached white and sand color to form a small contrast. The background spreads onto all sides, and the painting is sealed with a matte varnish to protect it against UV light, dust, smoke etc.
