Pets and Energy

2024-08-27T08:19:10-04:00

The wonderful PAO workshop with Cherie took place this past weekend. It was my second time sponsoring in my home and I feel it’s such an honor to facilitate a safe place of healing for people who would like to evolve and ‘step up’ into a higher consciousness.  Just like the first time, Lola took her seat the moment I formed the circle with the chairs. And while I won’t discuss what took place in the workshop, let [...]

Original Painting: Diana’s Bridal Bouquet

2024-08-26T18:36:54-04:00

{Diana's Bridal Bouquet - original acrylic on 18x18 inches gallery wrapped canvas} "The bridal bouquet Erica painted for me is stunning. Bouquets are one the one thing from weddings that are so easily lost and this painting not only preserves the memory, but showcases the true beauty and elegance it represented on my wedding day. I can’t thank Erica enough for the time and effort she invested in this painting. She is an extremely talented artist, and a [...]

When I’m not painting…

2024-08-26T16:37:44-04:00

I'm painting all day today as I'm about to finish another larger piece, but I figured it was time for a post where I show you what I do when I'm NOT painting. I hope you had a fantastic long weekend and that you're enjoying the shorter work-week. We get the long-weekends so seldom it's almost like we go into mourning once they are over. It's a little different when you're a full-time painter and can ease into [...]

The dream art studio

2024-08-26T16:12:23-04:00

I'm very fortunate to have my own studio in my house, and I love painting with the window open so I can smell the honey suckles, which are in bloom right now, and hear the birds... However, I still find myself dreaming away and thinking about an even nicer studio. I'm thinking a mix of the following: I feel the most creative surrounded by white and calm tones, so it needs to be white...preferably even the floors... My [...]

The Making of Hank’s Portrait

2024-08-27T10:32:37-04:00

I've been hard at work creating pieces for the Spring Art Auction 2013 and haven't worked on a pet portrait in a month or so, so I figured we'd take a look back at how Hank's pet portrait was created. :) I finished Hank sometime in early Fall I think and this one, like many other pet portraits (or paintings in general) didn't start pretty. After the rough sketch, it was time to filling in some blocks. It [...]

Behind the Scenes: Two Birds on a Wire – Spring Art Auction 2013

2013-05-16T16:21:44-04:00

As I mentioned earlier today, Two Birds on a Wire, started with a gradient background of a gray/purple background to white. After sketching out the bird, something didn't feel right. I eventually decided on this black/gray background that almost takes on a metallic sheen. I worked with a brush but always find that my hand also works really well when spreading around paint. Since it's acrylic it washes away easily.

What a difference…

2022-10-23T14:54:43-04:00

...24 little hours can make! My floater frames arrived and I'm so excited to show you what Bundle of Ranunculus looks like in two different frames. Frames can sometimes make a painting. I happen to think this one looks great in white or black frame or no frame at all, but of course I'm bias. :) Floater frames were invented by artists in the 1970s to create an affect where the canvas is "floating" within the frame. It [...]

Day 6

2022-09-15T12:39:45-04:00

DAY 6: FRUIT TULIP Welcome back and to Day 6 of your Painting Challenge! Today it's all about perspective. We're practicing opening up our perspective to how we tap into our creative energies, for how long or little, with what tools, what to paint, our perspective of how it makes us feel and how we view our art and any finished product. Changing our perspective of how we view ourselves and our creative process can [...]

Art show wrap-up: Art Affair

2024-08-26T16:16:19-04:00

The last outdoor art show for 2010 brought us to Richmond, Va. It's about a 2 hour drive from DC but can easily turn into much longer due to traffic which it did on October 15 when we headed down. Those times it's good to have friends who live on the way down. Thanks DD and Kenneth for a awesome meal in old town Fredericksburg! Richmond always seem to treat me really well! This time, I sold my [...]
