Art show wrap-up: Art Affair

2024-08-26T16:16:19-04:00

The last outdoor art show for 2010 brought us to Richmond, Va. It's about a 2 hour drive from DC but can easily turn into much longer due to traffic which it did on October 15 when we headed down. Those times it's good to have friends who live on the way down. Thanks DD and Kenneth for a awesome meal in old town Fredericksburg! Richmond always seem to treat me really well! This time, I sold my [...]

What a difference…

2022-10-23T14:54:43-04:00

...24 little hours can make! My floater frames arrived and I'm so excited to show you what Bundle of Ranunculus looks like in two different frames. Frames can sometimes make a painting. I happen to think this one looks great in white or black frame or no frame at all, but of course I'm bias. :) Floater frames were invented by artists in the 1970s to create an affect where the canvas is "floating" within the frame. It [...]

When I’m not painting…

2024-08-26T16:37:44-04:00

I'm painting all day today as I'm about to finish another larger piece, but I figured it was time for a post where I show you what I do when I'm NOT painting. I hope you had a fantastic long weekend and that you're enjoying the shorter work-week. We get the long-weekends so seldom it's almost like we go into mourning once they are over. It's a little different when you're a full-time painter and can ease into [...]

Philly Museum of Art

2013-04-17T19:36:31-04:00

{I just had to pretend I was Ricky Balboa} Casey and I headed up to Philly recently to watch Wilco play and spent the day walking the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Museum covers all the standard periods, including contemporary and pop. This is one of my favorite pieces. I normally don't fall for Picasso's paintings. They don't move me and I guess that's what I look for when I view art. This one though, isn't typical of [...]

DAY 5: BODY Yay! Congratulations friend, you’re on the last day of the 5 Day Pet Portrait Painting Challenge and today you’re finishing your pet portrait! I've highlighted the area in the above photo we're focusing on - the BODY! Remember you have access to the full reference photo of the painting (under Preparing for Success) if you prefer to use it. Now let's move on to some guiding steps (remember, progress over perfection!). [...]

Framing is done!

2024-08-26T16:49:17-04:00

I am so THRILLED with how the framing of the limited edition turned out. Thank you Deb of Farm Girl Framing for such a fantastic job! And these horrible iphone snaps don't even make it justice how gorgeous these are. These are 16x21 inches and 16x16 inches and of such high quality. All prints are numbered, titled and signed. They are printed with archival ink on high quality, acid free, alpha cellulose lignin free textured fine art paper made [...]

Weddings top of mind

2024-08-26T16:13:51-04:00

I have white dresses, sparkling shoes and bridal flowers on my mind! This week, Sweden's Crown Princess is getting married and boy is it more than a family affair! All the royal families of Europe will gather in Stockholm and Swedes will share their joy on the streets and infront of the TV sets. It's special. {http://www.kungahuset.se/royalcourt/wedding} Maybe it's more special to a royal fan like myself who tear up every time I watch Crown Prince Fredrik of [...]

Sweden and back

2013-04-17T20:21:42-04:00

The show season is over for this year and I've just gotten back from spending a week in Sweden. My days are spent unpacking, organizing and stealing moments of relaxation. The trip to Sweden was unplanned as my grandmother unexpectedly fell ill, but it was still a wonderful trip with my Mother. Sweden has such a nice blend between open fields, thousands of lakes and city life. {image from http://www.myperfectguide.se/) Sweden's capital, though small, breaths and feels differently [...]

National pancreatic cancer awareness month

2024-08-27T10:27:13-04:00

Happy November 1st everyone! I can't believe how fast the time flies. Wasn't it just August? November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and you may know that this is an important cause for me. I realize we've seen a lot of pink ribbons lately and all cancer awareness is amazing, but let's give it up for the purple ribbon this month. I decided earlier this year to donate 5% of all the proceeds from my paintings to [...]

Pet Portraits: How to paint realistic pet eyes

2023-02-02T09:36:20-05:00

A common question I get is "How do you paint a pet’s face?" In this blog post, I’ll share how I do it step-by-step. Note: for the purpose of simplicity, I’m talking mainly about tones in this blog post. It can be overwhelming to sit in front of a blank canvas when we think about painting a pet’s face as a complete painting. Instead, I invite you to try my process of breaking it down into sections: [...]
